Windows XP Tips: Speed Up the Start Menu



Speed up the Start Menu (Part One)


The default the speed of the Start Menu is very slow, but you be able to fix that problem by editing Registry Key. Fire up Registry Editor and navigate to the following key: 

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ MenuShowDelay

By default, the value is like that 400. By changing this to a smaller value, such as 0, to speed it up.


Speed up the Start Menu (Part Two)


If you’re confused by slow speed of Start Menu, even after using the tip that stated above, then you may try the following Tips: 

Navigate to the Display Properties after that Appearance afterward Advanced and turn off the option titled Show menu shadow. You will find much improved overall performance.
