Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) unhappy over internet VAT



The IT industry is dissatisfied in the government for disregarding its call to take out value added tax (VAT) on internet service to the next budget (2013-2014).




 

Nevertheless the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) became appreciation the Finance Minister for offering a tax diminution on fiber optic cable.

President of the platform named AKM Fahim Mashrur, said: “We are aggravated as the VAT on e-commerce and internet has not been reserved in the budget. But we are thanking  about the government for declaration to lessen tax on fiber optic cable.”
AKM Fahim Mashrur said although National Information Policy-2009 proposed to structure a Tk 7 billion National ICT Fund, no specific proclamation came in the Finance Minister’s budget speech on Thursday.
But he was happy about raise in the budgetary allotment for the Ministry of Information and Communicational Technology by three times over the last fiscal.

The ministry will be able to obtain Tk 5.30 billion which was just Tk 1.37 billion in the outgoing fiscal.

Presently, the ISPs are charged 15 % VAT on internet service and the VAT on IT-based service is 4.5 %.
